Revenge Records Mandate.

The basic premise of Revenge Records is to create an environment where the primary emphasis is on lyric content of the song, and the integrity of the performance.

This phenomenon used to be referred to as ‘artist development’, but that term, along with the word ‘integrity’ has been largely disenfranchised over the last decade.

As a voracious consumer of music from an early age, I have always been enthralled by its’ ability to capture the essence of emotion, current social situations, beauty and despair, sense of place, and cultural identity, in short, all the strengths and weaknesses of the human condition.

In an increasingly cynical, politically correct world, music stands alone as the last bastion of apolitical, non denominational expression…the ultimate ‘freedom of speech’

It is an international language, and a testament to the creative genius of the human intellect.

The act of turning pure imagination into commercial reality in order to secure the livelihood of its practitioners has always been tantamount to alchemy in my mind.

As such, there are several basic tenets to be observed.

Firstly, during the creative process, the artist must be left to their own devices to arrive at the statement that they wish to make, not somebody else's version of what the masses will find palatable.

The courage of an artist is determined by their willingness to 'live or die by the sword'

Secondly, the artist must assume responsibility for the impact that their output may have, when and if their work receives broad recognition. The saying that ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’ is an undeniable truth. The advantage of physical violence is its' immediacy, the weakness of logic and philosophy is that it is slow to permeate the mass consciousness.

Thirdly, an artist must recognize that their basic talent is indeed a gift, and should at all times be treated with ultimate respect.

Finally, it is imperative to understand that music is one of humankind's oldest forms of expression, and as such, its custodians must allow the muse to work through them. In reality, and by contemporary standards, this amounts to obsession, but in truth, it is an integral part of accepting 'the gift'

The artists on Revenge Records are there because one way or another, they have solicited my attention through the purity of their intent, and their ability to articulate their vision.

The name 'Revenge Records' springs from the fact that a crime has been perpetrated against music in the closing stages of the 20th century, inasmuch that commercial avarice has tried to remove the risk from creative endeavor.

By its very nature, music is untamable, its’ attrition rate is high, and the necessary courage and commitment to achieve success, extreme. It is the ultimate high risk industry.

I have utmost respect for artists of long tenure; it speaks volumes on their character. These are the values that I hope the artists on Revenge uphold, and it is my privilege to work with them.
