Good things take time, and after the best part of four years demo-ing, recording, re recording, re writing and generally fine tuning, Luella is just about done with her debut album.
Over a series of evolutions, She wound up working with Phil Rigger, visiting Sydney several times for sessions, taking it all back to Brisbane for a while, involving the unquestionable talents of Peter Cupples, working in Frank Kerestedjians’ studio, and basically surrounding herself with some of the most accomplished players in the Oz music scene. The songs are quite remarkable, and session by session, her vocals have found their feet, to the point where that mesmerizing live voice as been captured in a recorded environment.
The breadth of subject matter on the album is a good indication of her complexity as an individual, from the fun and love of life attitude on ‘Tonight’ to the fearless and profound queries raised by ‘No Joy Ride’ this is the first body of work from a woman who I know is going to set a new standard in writing and performance amongst her peers.
